Armor of God - Breastplate of Righteousness: Part 4 of 13

Preview: This is the fourth part of a thirteen-part series of lessons entitled: Armor of God.


Scripture Reading: I Thessalonians 5:1-13.

Memory Verse: Ephesians 6:14.

1. How important is a breastplate in our Christian warfare according to the foregoing Scripture Reading?
Note: A breastplate is a piece of armor which is used to protect the breast and heart area. A breastplate of righteousness is the quality of being right and just through faith and love. Read again I Thessalonians 5:8.
2. What other prescription do we have for protecting the heart? I Thessalonians 5:16-24.
3. What is said of our own righteousness? Isaiah 64:6.
4. Is there any protection for those who worship God with words but their attitudes are not right? Isaiah 29:13-15.
5. What are the characteristics of a self-righteous person? I Corinthians 3:1-3 & I Corinthians 6:7-10.
Note: Our works of self-righteousness are filthy in God’s eyes. The breastplate of righteousness (which is faith and love) puts Christ on the throne of our heart; this puts us under the control of the Holy Spirit.
6. What are the characteristics of a Spirit controlled life? Galatians 5:22-26.
7. Does righteousness come by works of the Law or dying to self? Galatians 2:16 & Galatians 2:20-21.
8. Can we ever understand the righteousness of God if we have not been crucified with Christ? I Corinthians 2:11 & I Corinthians 2:14-16.
Note: We can know, teach, and even try to practice all the Laws in the Book, but until the natural man (the self-centered nature that we are all born with) is dead, and we come forth with the mind and nature of God, our inward man (attitude) remains the same.
9. Consider some of the conditions of the unprotected heart: Proverbs 11:20, Proverbs 16:5, Proverbs 18:12, Ecclesiastes 7:4 & Jeremiah 17:9.
10. What is the only way that we can know our heart and be healed? Jeremiah 17:10 & Jeremiah 17:14.
